SUMMARY:SEAL Seminar Series: The Politics of Natural Resource Use in Cambodia
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:<p>The <a href=3d"http://irps.ucsd.edu/current-students/student-groups/seal.htm">Southeast Asia Link (SEAL)</a> student group at IR/PS presents this lecture by Dr. Kheang Un as part of its Seminar Series. <br />=0d=0a<br />=0d=0aDr. Un will discuss his recent paper titled &quot;The Politics of Natural Resource Use in Cambodia.&quot; Among other issues, the paper deals with the Cambodia People&rsquo;s Party (CPP) / Hun Sen domination of Cambodian politics through the deepening of neo=e2=80=90patrimonialism.<br />=0d=0a<br />=0d=0aDr. Un, a Khmer Rouge survivor, grew up and was educated in Cambodia before he left the country for higher education in the United States in 1992, when the country was reopened after decades of isolation from the international community. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics with distinction from the University of Hawai&rsquo;i in 1996, a Master of Arts in Political Science and Southeast Asian Studies from Northern Illinois University in 1999, and a Doctorate Degree in Political Science and Southeast Asian Studies from Northern Illinois University in 2004.<br />=0d=0a<br />=0d=0aDr. Kheang Un is currently a Visiting Fellow at the University of Louisville&rsquo;s Center for Asian Democracy.
